#IrishPubs are Universal

O’Reilly’s Bar. Because of course there would be an #IrishPub full of Swazi’s at the Mountain View Inn.  

 

 
The door to the pub looked just like a closet door back home. The only way I can think to describe it is very Harry Potter-esque. The door led to a staircase down to the basement of the hotel. If we had been in a movie, the music would have stopped as Laura and I headed down to the pub. We were the only women in the bar – and definitely the only white people in the bar (Note – there really aren’t many white people in Swaziland at all). We bellied up to the bar to toast our day with Swaziland’s only local beer, Sibebe (pronounced Ci-Baybay). Q, Marcelo, Hemang and Adel joined us shortly thereafter. And soon enough, the bar was more like Cheers where everybody knows your name.

 Really only one highlight to share from the evening. Q informed us that he was married to a white woman who lived in Pretoria (Q is black) and is dating a black girl from Soweto. I naturally asked him, “Are you a polygamist?” because I thought that was the natural question to ask after what I had learned between the Swazi’s and the Zulu’s in South Africa. But alas, of course that was a dumb question. He just happens to be cheating on his wife. #duh
